What are your meeting times?
MUNSC weekly meetings are held on Fridays from 3pm-6pm in VKC 101. Aside from weekly training meetings, members are required to attend other meetings related to TrojanMUN, SCMUN, and travel conference prep.
Do I have to be an International Relations major to join? Do I need to have MUN experience to join?
Nope! Any major can join the MUNSC team, and no previous MUN experience is needed! We are looking for individuals who care about MUN, have a passion for global affairs, and are willing and excited to commit time to traveling with the team.
What is the time commitment?
Aside from our weekly meetings, all members are required to do tasks that involve training, simulation, research, and conference preparation. Members are also required to dedicate extra time to research and prepare on their own when preparing to travel to a conference. Time varies; you might spend a couple hours a week if you're traveling to an upcoming conference vs. only the three hours at our meetings if you're not traveling soon. You are also required to commit for the entire duration of TrojanMUN and SCMUN.
How strict are the application and interview process?
The application will take about 15 minutes to complete. All applicants are eligible for interviews. Interviews are conducted in business professional attire and are used to gauge each applicant's interests, experience, and reasons for joining. Because the MUNSC team is one of the more competitive teams on the circuit, we do look for strong candidates that could positively contribute to our team.
How expensive is it to travel with the team?
All conference travel expenses (e.g. registration, flights, hotels) are nearly entirely subsidized by MUNSC. In order to be eligible for this subsidy, you must pay semesterly dues and meet all necessary membership requirements (e.g. attendance). For some conferences that require particularly expensive travel (e.g. flights), you may be required to pay an additional fee to travel. We try our best to find sufficient funding in order to give all our delegates the opportunity to travel, without the struggle or worries of financial burdens.
If I join, am I guaranteed to travel?
Due to the size of our team and logistics, no member is 100% guaranteed to travel to a conference. Depending on the cost of travel and the conference itself, MUNSC will send anywhere from 6 to 25 delegates per conference. Travel teams are chosen by their performance during simulations at meetings, their attendance records, and their overall interest and commitment to the team. If you didn't get a chance to go to one conference, no worries-–because you'll be likely to travel to the next one!
